How to preserve the life of mobile phones batteries

The new breed of mobile phones comes with enough features and options that can turn the phones into mini-workstations and entertainment centers. However, even if the phones are getting more technologically-advanced, the batteries that power these phones have not kept pace. Although regular charging of a mobile phone battery is unavoidable there are ways for you to preserve the life of your mobile phone battery. Take a look at some tips below for ideas.

  • If you have just bought a new mobile phone it is very important that you condition the battery first. Normally a mobile phone battery will be fully charged for about one and half to two hours for slow charge. However, you have to charge your new battery for five to six hours for about three to five charging times before it can be fully conditioned. A fully conditioned mobile phone battery will last longer.
  • Check the settings for your phone. Limit the time that the backlight for your cell phone screen remains turned on. Turn off animated wallpapers and screensavers as these features consume battery power. If you want to have wallpapered choose a static image instead.
  • Turn off the vibrate mode of your phone and just turn it on when you are in a meeting and have to keep your phone inside your pocket. The vibrate mode of a phone consumes more power than simple ringing. Low volume can also save some of your battery’s power.
  • Leaving the Bluetooth function on will also tax your cell phone battery. If you are using a smart phone, be sure to close the browser when you are not going to use it for some time because this can drain your battery.
  • Some smart phones will allow you to set the time when the phone can automatically turn on and off. This is a great way to save on battery power. Unless you are a high-powered executive on call 24/7, you can set your phone to turn off at a certain hour at night so you can get a good night’s rest and set it to turn on in the morning. It can even be set to act like your alarm clock.
  • Using the hands-free option when talking on the phone can also put a drain on your cell phone battery. If you do not like the idea of holding the phone close to your mouth while making a call, invest in a headset, which will actually consume less power than using the hands-free feature.
  • If you find yourself in a location where your phone cannot find any signal, consider turning off your cell phone for a while until you arrive at another location where you may be able to fine a good signal. Leaving the phone on while it searches for a network puts a drain on your battery.
  • Do not place your phone in areas where it will be exposed to extreme heat as this can shorten the life of your battery. If you have to remove and store the mobile phone battery, make sure that it still is forty percent charged, just like a laptop computer battery so it will be able to charge and recharge normally. Clean the contact of the battery once in a while with some rubbing alcohol. Clean contacts will extend the life of your battery.

Allow your battery to drain completely at least every two or three months before you charge it fully. This helps the battery maintain its good condition. Do this only if your phone has a LIon battery installed.
