How to use GPS on Blackberry smart phone curve

Blackberry smart phones, like other mobile phones come in several models. One of the models is the Blackberry Curve. It has easy-to-navigate features and GPS that is of great help when you travel most of the time. GPS or global positioning system is a navigational aid and having this on your mobile phone like the Blackberry Curve can be a lifesaver in case of emergency. Below are some tips on how to use GPS on a Blackberry Curve.
  • If you want to know your exact location press Menu from your Blackberry Curve main screen. From the Menu click Options and look for Advanced Options. Locate GPS from the advanced options and click Menu and the Refresh GPS option. Your screen will display your current location. This can be very handy when you want to let someone know where you are located or if you are in an emergency situation and directing someone to help you.
  • GPS on Blackberry Curve smart phone works with Blackberry maps which is already installed. To activate the GPS go to the home screen of your phone. Go to Options > Advanced Options > GPS and select Location On. Click Menu and then the Save option.
  • To view the map, click Maps from the home screen. Roll the trackball to pan or zoom on the map. Roll the trackball up when you want to zoom in and roll it down when you want to zoom out. Click the trackball if you are satisfied with the zoomed in or zoomed out view. Highlight a location marker on the map and press Menu to select the options available.
  • If you want to view a location, click Maps > Menu and select the Find Location option. If you want to know your current location, choose the Where I Am option. If you are looking of a new location, type the address in the search bar.
  • These locations can be bookmarked in the Blackberry Curve phone. Select Map then Menu followed by selecting the Find a Location option. Locate the address you want to bookmark and then click the Add to Favorites option.
  • If you want to get directions for a particular location, go to Maps from the home screen and click Menu. Choose the Get Directions option or search for it if you know the general address. Follow the rest of the prompts to get step by step directions either on the map or on a list.
  • Different mobile phone providers may have a different method of navigation using GPS installed on the Blackberry Curve phone that comes with your mobile phone plan. Make sure that you check with your provider on the charges for the use of the GPS and if this feature is activated. Read the Blackberry Curve manual thoroughly to learn how to set up your phone to activate the GPS and view the navigation guide.
The GPS feature on a Blackberry Curve may not work in some areas where radio interference may prevent the proper functioning of the system. Turn the GPS on and check if your phone is receiving any signal. If you are between tall buildings you may not able to receive a signal. The same can be true if you are inside a building. Moving closer to a window may help. If you still do not get any signal check the troubleshooting guide for your phone or contact your mobile phone service provider and ask for technical support.
