One of the best features of a Motorola phone is that it comes with phone tools that help you make the most of your new phone. If you have recently purchased a Motorola mobile phone unit, here are some steps to making the most of the phone tools.
  • Install software. First of all, you will need to install the software for the Motorola phone tools. When you get the phone, look inside the box and you will usually find a CD-ROM that contains the phone tools. The phone tools are a set of applications that allow you to interact with your mobile phone using your computer. This allows you to synchronize your phone content with your computer, thereby expanding the things that you can place for free in your phone. Simply insert the CD into your computer and follow the installation wizard.
  • Connect. Next, you will need to connect your Motorola phone to the computer. This is usually done through a mini-USB cord that attaches to the computer and to your Motorola phone. When you connect your phone to your computer, you get the chance to both sync your phone and to charge your phone’s battery.

  • Open. Once the phone is connected to your computer, you will need to open the phone tools. If you have recently installed the phone tools, you will find an icon left on your desktop. If you cannot find the icon in your desktop or if you have deleted it, you can access the program through the start menu icon on the taskbar in your computer. Read the manual so that you will be familiarized with the interface of the phone tools application.
  • Drag and drop. Once you have opened the application, you will be able to use it to transfer various types of files between your phone and your computer. The types of files that you can transfer include photos, music and sound clips, and even video clips. You can transfer from your computer to your phone, but you can also transfer from your phone to your computer. This feature is especially important since most Motorola phones come with a camera and a video and sound recorder. You can drag and drop the files using the panels in the phone tools application.
  • OS requirements. Keep in mind, however, that there are certain limitations for the Motorola phone tools. At present, the phone tools can only be installed in Windows operating systems. This means that you cannot install the phone tools if you have a Mac computer, or a Linux computer. If you want, however, you can use Wine for Linux or a similar emulator for Mac if you want to be able to run a Windows-platform application like the Motorola phone tools.

With these steps in mind, you should be able to easily transfer files and make use of the phone tools that comes with your Motorola mobile phone.
